can someone give a general/trail condition update before the run Saturday? Very light snow accumulation here in sunny Pittsburgh. I assume you guys got more of the white stuff than us?

Weather has been crazy lately.
Lots of rain on Sunday and then the temps dropped.
Minimal snow through yesterday afternoon, but cold.
Then the snow started last night, probably 2 or 3 hours worth, maybe 5 or 6 inches total this morning.
Then more this afternoon, probably as much as we had last night already.
Also lots of wind.
Some drifting.
Will try and run the trail on Friday morning and will give an update afterwards.

I can only imagine screwed shoes won't hurt at all.

I've run YUTC but not URINEO. What are the Lilly Pond and Big Bear sections?

Pull up the YUTC map, these sections are on the map, but not part of the YUTC course.

http://www.neotrail.org/yutc50Kcoursemap.html

Both Big Bear and Lily Pond are on the West or left side of the map.

Big Bear is about in the middle of the map and follows Cascade Run stream, always a beautiful section of trail. Go left at the fork up to the top of big bear cross the bridge hop back on the trail on the left and bear to the right on the trail take to the bottom and turn left, now you are back on the YUTC course.

Lily Pond is north of Bears Den just less than 1 mile from the log Cabin. When you get to the last hill on the YUTC course don't go up it turn left and go around the pond, when you go thru the parking lot go up the hill to the right. After about .5 mile turn left at the 4 way intersection and you are back on the YUTC course trail. .8 miles from the cabin.

It is a URINEO tradition to reverse direction after each loop from the cabin. The 7AM start will start in the same direction as YUTC. Clockwise on the map.

Bob

Sorry I will miss the fest this year. I really want to be there. Having the Log Cabin and a fire burning is terrific. Nice.

And for those not done by 1 p.m., don't fret. I consider it a badge of honor to be tended to and heckled by NEO Trail. Get that extra lap. Sounds like the party will stick around.

Cheers!

For those that have done YUTC and not URINEO, biggest difference is no Lake Newport, so less pavement.

I know its not crucial that I know the course but...wait a minute, I'm running with Jim...on second thought...I'm studying the map, and wondering how do you bypass Lake Newport? Cross over at the Mill?
